In Memoriam

Syndesmos - the World Fellowship of Orthodox Youth announces with deep sorrow the passing away, Tuesday 10th September 2013, of Albert Laham at the age of 89, who has been actively involved in Syndesmos since the foundation of the Fellowship.
Throughout all his life, Albert Laham served the Church of Christ, in various positions. He will remain alive in our memories as a man of dialogue and a witness of hope.
Albert Laham served in Syndesmos as a Vice-President for 6 years (1958-1964) and as a President for 13 years (1964-1977). After his term and until the end of his life, he remained a strong and faithful support to all Syndesmos initiatives.
All of us remember his brilliant theological spirit and his joyful presence in the XVIIth General Assembly, in Durres, Albania.
May the Lord remember his faithful servant Albert in his Kingdom now and ever and to the ages of ages.
Memory Eternal !

On behalf of the Fellowship,
Fr. Christophe D'Aloisio,

Syndesmos Festival Crete 2012

NEW: download the programme of the event!
Are there lines between Psychology and the Orthodox faith converging? What about psychotherapy compared to confession?  Should priests have skills in contemporary psychology? Does Psychology challenge the legacy of Church Fathers? Is Psychology the heir to Christian Spirituality? What is the impact of contemporary psychology in the life of the Orthodox Church? Which psyche for the theologian and which psyche for the psychologist? …
The above questions and others are the ones which are going to be discussed during the Festival in Crete the Syndesmos International Event in Crete, from 28 Aug. to 2 Sept. 2012. We are going to share our thoughts and questions with priests, psychiatrists, psychologists and professors. During this six-day period we are going to share the joy of Christ at the beautiful facilities of the camp “Saint-Paul” of the Holy Diocese of Kydonias (Akrotiri, Chania).  The program will include keynote speeches, discussions in small groups, workshops, role-playing games and common prayer. Moreover, there will be spare time for singing, playing, walking, having a swim in the sea, visiting some picturesque places and relaxing.
Most of participants of past Syndesmos events can witness of the personal enrichment that you can get and the joy you can live in participating. Indeed, Syndesmos events are a unique occasion to get to know and bound real friendship with young orthodox people from a very wide variety of places, churches, societies, cultures, etc.
At the end of the event, we will have the opportunity to participate in the Divine Liturgy at the new Monastery of the Transfiguration, which will be celebrated by H.A.H. Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople who will come for the inauguration of the new church of the Monastery.

____Syndesmos Festival 2012____

The theme of the Syndesmos 2012 Neamt project is “Prophets for our time”. There are several reasons why we have chosen this theme: it connects Old and New Testament, it refers to prophetic figures of the 19th and 20th centuries and because the very existence of Syndesmos and its activities over the last six decades have had a prophetic aspect.
At the end of the festival, participants will leave with another look on prophets and especially on each person’s own role to play in the life of the Church.

The programme consists in conferences, discussions, prayer as well as informal times like an excursion in Neamt area and an intercultural evening.
Participants will have the opportunity to experience the unity of the Church, sharing their faith and the joy of being together.
His Eminence Metropolitan Josif of the Romanian Orthodox Metropolis of Western and Southern Europe will participate in this event as a keynote speaker.
